In a freelance capacity, I led strategic design at Manualy, a SaaS platform that provides SOPs and manual creation for the retail and hospitality industry. Having successfully validated their MVP with an initial proof-of-concept, Manualy sought to scale their user base by transforming their onboarding and ‘Getting Started’ experience to enable user self-management and more clearly demonstrate their product's unique value.
While the core product was proven, the path to user activation and conversion presented key friction points that hindered scaling.
- Unintuitive User Journey: The existing interface was complex, especially given Manualy’s multi-permission user levels. This created a confusing initial experience for new users tasked with onboarding their teams. - Unclear Value Proposition: During onboarding, the product’s advantages over customers' existing solutions and competitors were not immediately apparent, making it difficult to convert beta users into committed customers. - Manual Onboarding Dependency: To unlock their next wave of beta users, Manually needed to move away from hands-on support and create a self-serve, intuitive flow that guided users to value independently.
